September 1: Bruges, Belgium

Before we went to Bruges I tried to watch the movie In Bruges, but the damn jet lag made me fall asleep last night. Anyway, Bruges is a pretty cool town. It's definitely small enough to see in one day, but it still has a ton of character. The taxi dropped us off at the main Markt Square next to the Belfry Tower. Once the canal tours opened up we hopped on a boat and toured the city.
After that we ate lunch at De Koetse. I had paling in 't groene (eel in a green spinach sauce) and my mom got the moules Bruges (mussels with a beer and cream sauce). The mussels were probably the tastiest I have ever had and it was easy to see why Belgium is famous for their mussels.

After lunch we went and saw Michelangelo's "Madonna and Child," which is one of the few works housed outside of Italy. Then we headed back to the Belfry Tower and climbed up the 366 or so stairs to the top and had a spectacular view of the entire city.

Finally, we ended the day by visiting the chocolate museum, which, in my opinion, was a huge disappointment for 6 euros, but at least we got a few free samples of chocolate.
Unfortunately, these weren't part of the museum.
