July 7: Split & Krka National Park

This morning I unfortunately woke up at 5:30 without the help of any kids. At 6:30 we went down to breakfast and were the only ones from our group down there. While we were eating I recognized the YouTuber, iShowSpeed, and his bodyguard at breakfast. As we were finishing up breakfast Yeh-yeh and Ni-ni arrived and they decided to go with us to the farmer's market instead of with the rest of the group to the beach. We met up with my parents at about 8:30 and started walking towards the old town, which is where the farmer's market is. On our way we stopped at a pharmacy to get some waterproof bandaids for Luke's knee that got scraped up on an escalator yesterday. After the pharmacy Vaughn caught up to us on his way to the beach so we walked the rest of the way to the old town with him, where we happened to enter through the north gate.

Walking through the palace at that time was nice because there were no crowds from any tours or cruise ships around. Once we got to the farmer's market we said goodbye to Vaughn as he left for the beach and we walked around leisurely looking at all the stalls with their produce.

Christal wanted to get some food to take with us this afternoon for the kids so we bought some local pears that I had never seen before, some green-striped cherry tomatoes, cheese and bread. As we left the farmer's market area we stopped at a stand with some soccer jerseys and got LB a Luka Modrić jersey that matches the one Kelsey bought in Dubrovnik.

Our next stop was a pastry shop that I wanted to try called Tradicija Bakery. They had some cute marzipan ducks that caught Maddy's eye, LB picked out a vanilla cream horn and I got a vanilla cream slice. Unfortunately they didn't have the pastries that were recommended available, but all three items were very good.

LB had been complaining about his legs being tired for a while so I think getting the cream horn for him settled him down a little bit. After we bought the pastries we took an Uber back to the hotel and went to Yeh-yeh and Ni-ni's room to eat them since they had more room. Once we finished off the goodies we went back to our room to rest for a few hours.

A little after noon I walked to a mall that was close by with Vaughn and Ni-ni to get some food for the kids. I went to Tommy supermarket and got a game gnocchi and took it back to the hotel for the kids to eat. Maddy had a few bites and when I woke LB up at 1:30 he had a few bites as well.

At 2 we all got on the bus to go to Krka national park, which was about an hour away from Split. Before we entered Krka national Park we stopped at a small town close to the mouth of the Krka River, called Skradin, where we met our local guide, Ilijana. In Skradin we went to the beach and jumped in the brackish water for a quick swim before walking over to the harbor to take a boat up to the national park. On the boat we all dug into the goodies we bought in the morning at the farmer's market and it all seemed to be a hit.

Once the boat docked we all unloaded and walked to a lower bridge that had a great view of the Skradinski Buk waterfall. After we took some pictures and enjoyed the view, Ilijana led us on a hike through the park, stopping at multiple smaller waterfalls and pools along the way.

We had originally planned on going up to some other waterfalls and pools higher, but there were some rainstorms in the morning and the patio boats that we were going to ride ended up canceling for the whole day, so we stayed around the lower area and eventually Ilijana showed us the mill and washing machine area where she used to come with her grandmother to wash clothes, blankets, etc. and then she said goodbye while we observed another viewpoint and used the restrooms.

When we were done we walked to meet Nemanja to get on the bus and rode back to Split. Back at the hotel we took a quick shower and then walked with Yeh-yeh and Ni-ni to the Mall next to the hotel to have dinner at the food court and then headed to bed.
